Nir Oz, a kibbutz situated less than 7km from the Gaza border, faced a devastating attack on October 7th, resulting in the tragic loss of over 46 residents and the abduction of more than 70 individuals. With a population of 427, the kibbutz suffered extensive damage to its buildings and communal facilities. In response to this catastrophe, survivors from Nir Oz have been temporarily relocated to Karmei Gat for a period of three years, during which the kibbutz aims to rebuild and prepare for the return of its residents.
Transitioning from a kibbutz to city residence poses significant challenges for the people of Nir Oz. One notable challenge is the absence of communal spaces where the youth can gather and socialise. To address this need, we are launching a fundraising initiative to build a youth centre in Karmei Gat. This centre will serve as a vital space for the youth of Nir Oz to continue their interactions and activities over the next three years, fostering a sense of community and normalcy during this challenging period.
